Hello & Welcome
Hi everyone, and welcome to my Carved Fairy Houses website. Carving has been a passion of mine for the last 20 years. I’ve taught carving classes for the last 7 years, and I would like to teach you and help develop your skills in carving with this website.
How it all began:
It all started after my two children were grown and left the nest. Now I had lots of spare time to fill with something I wanted to do for a change. But what?
Then I remembered a bear carving my older brother made in college. Way back then, I had asked him to teach me how to carve something. He told me I was much too young to learn knife skills and it was way too hard for an eleven-year-old to learn. I was broken-hearted. I told myself, that one day I would learn those skills and carve something wonderful. Now was the start of that day.
I figured I needed help to achieve this goal, so I joined a local carving club. Within a week of joining they had their annual carving classes. Lucky me!
I signed up for what I thought would be the easy class. Making a pine tree. Needless to say, I had to make two to get it right. But I did it and learned the basics along the way.
Meetings were once a week and I thrived in this environment, all while picking people’s brains for information along the way.
Thus my addiction begins.
My attendance in the carving club only lasted two short years, due to us selling our home and moving into a 5th wheel trailer, full time. We decided to travel the country with the season changes, every six months. This, unfortunately, meant no carving community to join in most of the places we went to.
No hands-on training! Now what?
I was on my own for a while. I developed my own style and techniques and then started offering my own carving classes at the RV parks I stayed at. This was a huge success. I’ve been a carving teacher for six years and would love to expand my knowledge to the internet and to you.
My website is designed to teach the basics, intermediate, and advanced techniques in carving whimsical houses and their terrains. I’ll also be discussing the tools you’ll need and providing the links to purchase them.
Here is an example of one of my fairy houses. This is a very basic house and is a lot easier than it looks to carve.
So look around and enjoy the site.
If you have any questions or comments to share, please feel free to leave them below. I am more than happy to help you out, and can’t wait to hear from you.

Thanks for the information on wood carving. My background is First Nation, so I learned wood carving when I was young.
But some information you have presented here is new to me. I’ve always enjoyed carving, as a matter of fact, my daughter had her 7th birthday and we did fairy gardens and house.
Each child was given a utensil to carve their house. It was fun for the kids as well I learned a young mind can be taught if starting young.

Great post! I’ve often thought about learning wood carving an’ would really love to learn. I can’t promise I will take up this new hobby, but I can absolutely guarantee that I will be back to read future posts on your website.
I have about 59/11 other hobbies that I enjoy, but who knows? I COULD suddenly take an inkling to learn yet one more new thing. Therefore, I’ll be back to learn from you so’s I can be prepared when that ‘yen’ hits me to learn, again, sump’n new.
I admire your determination to continue learning an’ sharing what you know. Thanks for this first lesson!

Thanks for your very kind words. I appreciate them, and you visiting my site.
I understand about having a lot of hobbies, but it’s always nice to learn something new too.
It’s really a lot easier to carve than most people think it is. If you decide to join in on the lessons, I believe you’ll find it an enjoyable experience. I hope to see you return and continue to enjoy my lessons and the general website.
